The Other Box Scene - Klaine drabble

Summary: Kurt can’t be the only one with a promise ring…

Blaine heard the incessant knocking on his front door, and was rushing to it, annoyed that he was being bothered so close to Christmas. He opened the door to a shivering Kurt, who in turn, threw himself at Blaine, quickly wrapping his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. Blaine laughed and held on tightly. “Well hello to you too,” Blaine said, burying his face into Kurt’s neck, reveling in the feel of his cooled skin. “Come in before you freeze to death.”

Kurt was guided in as he took his coat and scarf off and hung them on Blaine’s hat stand along with his bag. They walked into the living room, and immediately fell into their respective positions on Blaine’s couch. Blaine sat by the arm rest, and Kurt sat right beside him with his legs on Blaine’s lap, resting his head on Blaine’s shoulder as Blaine wound his arm around Kurt’s waist. They found each other’s hands and laced them in a much too practiced motion, and Kurt closed his eyes and sighed, feeling instantly warmer in Blaine’s embrace.

“What’re you doing here?” Blaine asked, mumbling into Kurt’s hair. He inhaled deeply, smelling the lovely vanilla of Kurt’s shampoo.

“Just wanted to see you,” Kurt replied just as quietly, “wanted to surprise you.” Blaine smiled to himself as he rubbed his thumb along the skin of Kurt’s hand.

“AAAAND…” Blaine jumped at the sudden rise in volume, and whined as Kurt got up to head back to the coat rack. “What’re you doing?” he called out. Kurt came back running, swiftly getting on his knees in front of Blaine’s place on the couch. “I wanted to give you this.” Kurt placed his hands on Blaine’s lap, a tiny box in his palms. Blaine looked at the box, wide-eyed and jaw slacked slightly. He questioningly looked back up at Kurt, and Kurt just shrugged and smiled softly. “I couldn’t bare seeing your naked finger anymore.”

Blaine took the box and opened it slowly, revealing a dark blue, crocheted ring, with a single red stripe down the middle. He smiled, chuckling lightly, knowing what it was but having the urge to ask anyway. “Is that a-“

“It’s a scarf, yes.” Kurt fought hard to hide his grin. “Do you like it?”

Blaine brought his hand up, cupping Kurt’s face. Kurt leaned into the touch, his face feeling at home in Blaine’s touch. “I love it,” Blaine said, his voice cracking a little. His mouth morphed into a huge smile, and Kurt leaned up closer to Blaine.

“So…” Kurt said, his voice deeper than it had been. “About that promise you made me..” Blaine leaned in closer, their breaths mingling as Kurt kept his look trained on Kurt’s lips. “You mean this one?” And Blaine tipped his head down to capture Kurt in a soft kiss, pressing his lips onto Kurt’s, sucking lightly on Kurt’s bottom one. They broke apart, panting softly as they did. “I love you,” Blaine whispered, resting his forehead on Kurt’s. “I love you, too. So much. Too much.”

Kurt took the ring and slipped it onto Blaine’s ring finger, smiling at how well it fit. “Merry Christmas, Blaine.”
